As a Therapist…

As a Therapist…

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist with over 10 years of clinical psychotherapy experience, specializing in treatment of adolescents and their parents.  I have experience working with adolescents in school and clinical settings. I have also worked with adults who are struggling with family communication issues, stress and mental health issues. I have led groups for parents of teens with substance abuse issues, as well as co-parenting education groups.  I’ve also treated other clinical issues including: depression, anxiety, trauma related issues, substance abuse, relationship conflict and grief.

I have a Masters of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (2010) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration (1998) from Santa Clara University.  My course work included coursework in Positive Psychology; Human Development; Psychology of Relationships; Group Therapy; Multicultural Theory; Ethics and Law; Grief and Loss; Counseling the Adolescent; Career Counseling; and Group Counseling.

My Personal Story-

I was born and raised in San Jose/Silicon Valley and always assumed that I would go work in hi-tech business.  As such, I graduated with my Bachelors in Business and worked as a corporate professional in Human Resources for over 20 years.  I found the department within a hi-tech company that is most focused on helping the people.  In 2004, I felt a desire to help people on a deeper and more personal level.  So, I began to volunteer at a crisis hotline (now Bill Wilson’s Contact Cares) and came to a realization.  I became excited about connecting with people, understanding their values, emotions and goals and helping them work towards change.  I especially connected with the teens (13+) and young adults who are doing so much transformation and forming their identity, which is filled with so much hope and opportunity.

I am many things in addition to being a Therapist.  I am a wife to my husband of 21 years.  I’m a mom to two teen daughters.  I’m a professional with business experience, who understands the corporate environment.  I’m a daughter, sister, friend and confidante – and have the life experience that I believe allows me to be open to hear your individual life story.
